IK Rating
IK Rating classifies the level of protection electrical appliances provide against mechanical impacts from outside. It is defined by the standard IEC 62262. The degree of mechanical protection is identified by a code that consists of the letters IK followed by two digits:
Code |
Impact energy (Joules) |
Test |
00 |
Non-protected | |
01 |
0.15 |
Resistant against an impact from an object of 200 grams thrown from a distance of 7.5cm |
02 |
0.2 |
Resistant against an impact from an object of 200 grams thrown from a distance of 10cm |
03 |
0.35 |
Resistant against an impact from an object of 200 grams thrown from a distance of 17.5cm |
04 | 0.5 | Resistant against an impact from an object of 200 grams thrown from a distance of 25cm |
05 | 0.7 | Resistant against an impact from an object of 200 grams thrown from a distance of 35cm |
06 | 1.0 | Resistant against an impact from an object of 500 grams thrown from a distance of 20cm |
07 | 2.0 | Resistant against an impact from an object of 500 grams thrown from a distance of 40cm |
08 | 5.0 | Resistant against an impact from an object of 1.7kg thrown from a distance of 29.5cm |
09 | 10.0 | Resistant against an impact from an object of 5kg thrown from a distance of 20cm |
